Climbers raise their arms in joy as they watch the sunrise atop Mt. Fuji on Friday, the opening day of the mountain for this summer on the Yamanashi Prefecture side. To witness this precious moment, about 30 climbers started their ascent in the early hours of Friday morning. As the sun began to rise in a clear sky, they threw their hands up in celebration and took pictures. “It was the best sunrise I’ve ever seen on a mountain. I couldn’t help but join my hands in prayer for world peace and the end of the novel coronavirus pandemic,” said a 79-year-old climber from Fujinomiya, Shizuoka Prefecture.
