Blue and purple hydrangea flowers float in glass bowls filled with water at an annual event at Hannyaji temple in Nara. The temple began displaying “hydrangea bowls” with flowers harvested from the precincts last year. This year, about 150 flowers in glass bowls will be displayed through the end of the month. A woman in her 40s visiting from Daito, Osaka Prefecture, said, “I’d like to try making a flower bowl at home. It looks easy and fun.”
