A bear bit a man in Iwate Prefecture on Monday, according to police.
The 78-year-old man sustained minor injuries to his thigh and other parts of his body after the bear attack near a residential area in the town of Otsuchi.
The man was with eight other residents cutting bushes so that bears cannot hide in them.
On Tuesday, traps were set to catch the bear.
