Illuminated ice sculptures create a fantastical atmosphere in extremely cold weather at the Ice Fall Festival in Kamikawa, Hokkaido. Visitors have their temperature checked at the entrance to the venue, which contains 30 sculptures of various sizes, each reminiscent of a frozen waterfall. “I came to the nearby Sounkyo district [for the festival] because I can’t go on holiday amid the pandemic. These handcrafted gigantic ice sculptures are absolutely magnificent,” said Hiroki Nakajima, a company employee from Asahikawa. The event is open from 5 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. daily and runs through March 13.
