People cautiously cross a street in Sapporo on Saturday morning, when the city had its first accumulation of snow this season, blanketing it in white. The snow coverage, resulting from a strengthening winter pressure pattern, came 18 days later than average and was the third latest on record. According to the Japan Meteorological Agency’s Sapporo Regional Headquarters, Sapporo, which had its first snowfall of the season on Nov. 19, got two centimeters of snow in Chuo Ward as of 9 a.m.
