Tokyo confirmed 17,526 new cases of the novel coronavirus on Sunday, up 1,631 from a week earlier and an all-time high for a Sunday.
Osaka Prefecture saw five deaths linked to COVID-19 and a record 12,555 new coronavirus cases, topping 10,000 for the sixth consecutive day.
