Tokyo logged 19,798 new cases of infection with the novel coronavirus on Friday, with the daily tally falling below 20,000 for the first time in three days.
The capital’s tally was up 2,167 from a week earlier.
Meanwhile, Kanagawa Prefecture logged a record-high 9,032 new cases.
A nationwide tally compiled on Thursday that stated daily cases had exceeded 100,000 included 7,625 unlogged cases in Osaka Prefecture that had been confirmed before the day. Thursday’s tally was 96,846, excluding the unlogged cases.
