Daily coronavirus tally tops 50,000 nationwide; Tokyo logs over 11,000 cases

More than 50,000 new coronavirus cases were confirmed across Japan on Saturday, according to a Yomiuri Shimbun tally, marking a record high for the fifth consecutive day.
Tokyo confirmed 11,227 new cases, surpassing 10,000 for the first time and rewriting the daily record for the fourth consecutive day.
Osaka Prefecture confirmed a record 7,375 new cases, topping the 6,254 cases reported Friday.
Meanwhile, Aichi Prefecture logged a record 3,457 new cases, exceeding the previous record for the fourth consecutive day, and Gunma Prefecture confirmed 709 cases, rewriting its record high for the fifth consecutive day.
