Okinawa Prefecture confirmed 1,759 new cases of the novel coronavirus on Saturday, logging a record high for the third consecutive day.
Meanwhile, Tokyo confirmed 1,224 new cases, up from 79 a week earlier and exceeding 1,200 for the first time since Sept. 11 when 1,276 cases were reported.
According to the Tokyo metropolitan government, the number of serious COVID-19 patients rose to four, up one from Friday.
In Osaka Prefecture, there were 891 new cases on Saturday, topping 800 for the first time since Sept. 16.
