Tokyo logs 9 new coronavirus cases, fewest since May 2020

TOKYO (Jiji Press) — Tokyo confirmed nine new cases of novel coronavirus infection on Monday, the first figure below 10 since May 31 last year, the metropolitan government said.
The figure fell by eight from a week before, standing below 50 for the 16th straight day.
Five new positive cases were reported among people in their 30s and one each among people under 10, in their 40s, 60s and 70s. One COVID-19 fatality was confirmed.
The seven-day average of daily new cases in the Japanese capital stood at 23.4, down 20.9% from the preceding week. The number of COVID-19 patients with severe symptoms, recognized under the metropolitan government’s standards, came to 14, unchanged from Sunday.
Osaka Prefecture, western Japan, reported seven new infection cases on Monday, the first figure below 10 since July 6 last year.
