Taiwan Raises 2.5 B. Yen in Donations to Japan over Quake

TAIPEI, Jan. 22 (Jiji Press)—The Taiwanese government said Monday that it has raised some 540 million Taiwan dollars from the public for donations to Japan following a massive New Year’s Day earthquake.
The Japanese earthquake has been drawing keen attention among people in Taiwan, which is also earthquake-prone like Japan.
Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen has issued a message of support soon after the earthquake and offered aid. The Taiwanese government has pledged to donate ¥60 million.
