The government plans to spend ¥4.7 billion from reserve funds to step up relief efforts for areas in Ishikawa Prefecture and elsewhere hit by Monday’s powerful earthquake.
The use of reserve funds from the fiscal 2023 budget is expected to be decided at a Cabinet meeting on Tuesday.
The funds are to be used for “push-type assistance”, where the government delivers aid without waiting for relief applications from local bodies, and for cold weather safety in evacuation centers.
