About 500 people are isolated at Noto Airport in Wajima, Ishikawa Prefecture, after roads were cut off in the area due to a major earthquake that struck the Noto Peninsula in the Prefecture and other areas on Monday, according to the Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism Ministry and the Ishikawa Prefectural Government. No injuries have been confirmed.
According to the ministry, several buildings at the airport, including the terminal building, had their ceilings ripped off and windows broken. About 500 airport users, local residents, and employees have taken refuge in rental cars and tourist buses in the airport parking lot. Blankets and food have also been provided to them.
