High School Student Stabbed on Street in Kawasaki

A 16-year-old boy was stabbed in the back of his head on Monday morning on a street in Asao Ward, Kawasaki, local police said.

According to police, a passerby called 110 at 8:20 a.m. to report that a student had been stabbed and that the person who stabbed him ran away. The victim, a first-year high school student, was taken to hospital but is conscious and able to speak.

Police said that they believe the boy was attacked from behind on his way to school, and they found a knife at the scene of the assault. According to sources close to the case, investigators suspect that the attacker was also a boy.

Police said that the suspect was wearing a black down jacket and a white hooded sweatshirt, as well as a mask.

The attack was in a residential district about 600 meters from the Kurihira Station on the Odakyu Tama Line. A high school is located about 300 meters from the scene. A second-year-student from the school said that the street where the attack took place was one of the commuting routes for the school’s students. “I’m scared that the incident happened on a street that I also use.”
