4 former Tepco executives ordered to pay ¥13.32 trillion

The plaintiffs of the lawsuit seeking damages related to the nuclear accident in the Fukushima No. 1 nuclear plant celebrate their victory at The Tokyo District Court on Wednesday.

The Tokyo District Court on Wednesday ordered four former executives of Tokyo Electric Power Company Holdings, Inc. to pay a combined ¥13.32 trillion in damages related to the nuclear accident in the Fukushima No. 1 nuclear plant after the Great East Japan Earthquake and subsequent tsunami in March 2011.
In the lawsuit, individual Tepco shareholders had demanded five Tepco executives pay a combined ¥22 trillion to compensate for causing a massive loss to the company. Of the five, four including former chairman Tsunehisa Katsumata were ordered to pay compensation.
