Damaged Electric Wires May Have Caused Large Fire in Wajima; Melted Wiring Found in Area That Burned After Noto Earthquake

Short circuits and poor contact between electrical wires that were damaged by the Noto Peninsula Earthquake may have been responsible for the massive blaze that broke out in Wajima, Ishikawa Prefecture, it was announced Thursday.
Melted wiring was found inside a building in the western part of the area that burned down after the quake, according to the Internal Affairs and Communications Ministry’s Fire and Disaster Management Agency.
