A subsequent earthquake advisory, which had been issued for Hokkaido and the Sanriku coast region, was lifted Monday.

The advisory was issued by the Japan Meteorological Agency after a powerful earthquake struck off the Sanriku coast on April 20.

Citing a relatively increased risk of a major earthquake, the government had urged residents of 182 municipalities in seven prefectures — from Hokkaido to Chiba — to take special precaution, such as by maintaining readiness to evacuate immediately, for a week until 5 p.m. on April 27. Even after the lifting of the advisory, the government will continue to ask residents to stay prepared on a daily basis by making such efforts as confirming evacuation routes.
