Restaurant sales rose 20.4% in May, recovering to almost pre-COVID level

Restaurant sales increased 20.4% in May from the same month last year, the Japan Food Service Association announced Monday.
The sales were 4.6% lower than those in May 2019, before the COVID-19 pandemic began, which is considered a recovery. The number of newly infected people has been hovering at a low level and there were no restrictions on travel during the Golden Week holidays this year.
