“Playground of Life: Jellyfish Pavilion,” one of the eight signature pavilions at the 2025 Osaka-Kansai Expo, has achieved two Guinness World Records. Producer and musician Sachiko Nakajima was presented with the certificates on Monday at the pavilion on Yumeshima island in Osaka’s Konohana Ward.
In the pavilion’s basement, there were 31 performances by musicians every day, where they improvised with instruments from around the world accompanied by footage of 17 festivals and folk arts from Japan and abroad. The total of 5,693 performances over the six-month Expo period set a record for “most varieties of live performances for a visual installation at a single event.”
The 769.3-square-meter roof also set a Guinness World Record for “largest roof in the shape of a jellyfish.”
“The live performances were created in collaboration with so many people; I’m deeply moved,” said Nakajima.
