Japan’s Mito Cherry Blossoms Begin Bloom Earlier Than Average

MITO – Cherry blossoms of the Someiyoshino variety have begun blooming in Mito, the Mito Regional Meteorological Observatory announced Wednesday.

The start of the bloom is five days earlier than the average year and marks the seventh earliest bloom since observations began in 1953.

Staff confirmed that more than 10 flowers had bloomed on the tree used for reference located on the meteorological observatory grounds in the city. According to the observatory, statistically, cherry blossoms often reach peak bloom in about a week.
