SHIZUOKA — Someiyoshino cherry blossoms have begun blooming in the City of Shizuoka, four days earlier than the average year and six days earlier than last year, the Shizuoka Local Meteorological Office announced Friday. The blossoms are expected to reach full bloom in about a week to 10 days.

A staff member of the office confirmed that five to six or more flowers had bloomed on the specimen tree in the office’s grounds in Sunpu Ward, Shizuoka, at about 11 a.m..

The warm spell since early March is believed to have made the blooming season relatively earlier.
