The Ichijodani Asakura Family Site in Fukui is a well-preserved ruin of a city destroyed in battle during the 16th century.
Temples, homes of merchants and important locations for the ruling Asakura household have been mapped out across the valley.
Houses around where the residences of high-ranking samurai were located have been recreated, giving visitors a clearer idea of how the town looked.
The valley is an active archeological site, and excavations are still being made to investigate what life in this medieval town was like.
