Fans offered prayers and flowers at a table set up at an exhibition about John Lennon and his wife Yoko Ono in Tokyo on Tuesday, the 40th anniversary of the iconic musician’s death.
Lennon, a former member of The Beatles who had a successful solo career, was shot to death by a man in front of The Dakota apartment building where he lived in New York on Dec. 8, 1980. He was 40.
News of his sudden death shocked the entire world.
Lennon’s songs conveying love and peace continue to resonate with people today.
Admirers turned up one after another at the exhibition, “Double Fantasy — John & Yoko,” and placed bouquets of flowers on the table. They wrote messages such as “Thank you,” “I love you,” “Peace,” and “Please watch over us” in notebooks provided at the venue, Sony Music Roppongi Museum, in Tokyo’s Minato Ward.
The exhibition will run through Jan. 11. The table for flowers will be available until Thursday.
People gather at the Strawberry Fields memorial in New York’s Central Park to remember John Lennon on Tuesday.
