X Games held in Japan for 1st time

The X Games international extreme sports event kicked off Friday at Zozo Marine Stadium in Chiba City, marking the first time for the games to be held in Japan.

Contestants battle it out in various disciplines featuring skateboards, BMX bicycles, and off-road bikes.

The skateboarding qualifying rounds were held Friday, with Tokyo Olympics gold medalist Sakura Yosozumi participating in the Women’s Skateboard Park event. “I want to achieve more height in the finals,” she said, after delivering a error-free performance. “I really want to have fun and show people what I’ve been working on.”

The spectator-friendly event runs until Sunday.
