Visitors Flock to Tokyo Aquarium for Evacuated Penguins; Birds to Return to Reopened Ishikawa Prefecture Aquarium after Noto Earthquake Damage

Seven Magellanic penguins evacuated from Notojima Aquarium in Nanao, Ishikawa Prefecture, which suffered damage from the Noto Peninsula earthquake, were seen by visitors at Sumida Aquarium in Sumida Ward, Tokyo, on Monday.
They are scheduled to return to their home aquarium on Aug. 30, which reopened for business in July.
The penguins arrived at Sumida Aquarium in February, where they are free to roam around the enclosure while chirping and braying.
A 12-year-old girl who visited with her mother said, “I’m going to miss them, but I hope they’ll live in good health back in their home.”
