British Ambassador to Japan Volunteers in Quake-Hit Wajima; Helps Clear Furniture from Damaged Houses

WAJIMA, Ishikawa – British Ambassador to Japan Julia Longbottom recently visited Wajima, Ishikawa Prefecture, to join volunteer activities to clean up houses damaged by the Noto Peninsula Earthquake on New Year’s Day.
Her volunteer activities began around 10 a.m. on Thursday at the home of a 76-year-old woman in the city’s Kawai district, which was severely damaged by the major earthquake. Together with Carolyn Davidson, British Consul General in Osaka, and others, the ambassador moved various items including a fallen wardrobe and a table.
Afterwards, they met with Mayor Shigeru Sakaguchi at city hall and told him that they would like to expand the circle of support for Noto.
