Princess Kako, the second daughter of Crown Prince Akishino, attended the National Urban Greenery Festival in Eniwa, Hokkaido, on Wednesday.
It was the first time in three years that the princess had visited a regional city outside the Tokyo metropolitan area. She gave an address in which she spoke about the diligent efforts made by children to create the flower beds at the venue.
“I hope that many people, including those from younger generations, will further proceed to create towns of flowers, which brings happiness,” Princess Kako said.
After the ceremony, the princess participated in the commemorative planting of a sapling of ezoyamazakura (Sargent’s cherry) at a nearby park.
