MORIOKA — A public opening of cherry blossoms is underway at a water purification facility in Morioka, attracting many visitors as the trees have reached their peak. The site will remain open to the public through May 6.
Established in 1934, Yonai Water Purification Plant is the oldest water treatment plant in the city and features 34 cherry trees of various species on its grounds. It is a popular destination for visitors to enjoy the harmony of historic architecture and seasonal blooms. About 21,000 people visited the site last year. On Wednesday, the first day of the public display, many tourists were seen capturing the scenery with their cameras.
“This is my first time here, and it’s truly beautiful,” said a 21-year-old female ballet dancer visiting from Tokyo. “The weather is lovely, and it’s very relaxing.”
According to the city’s water purification division, the best period to view the blossoms is ongoing and expected to continue through the end of this month.
