Pipe Burst Injures 5 at Hyper-Kamiokande Neutrino Observatory Construction Site in Gifu Pref, Japan

The bursting of a pipe injured five workers, some seriously, at Hyper-Kamiokande, a facility for observing neutrinos and other elementary particles being constructed in Hida, Gifu Prefecture, at about 10:15 a.m. on Tuesday.

The accident occurred during an inspection of pipes.

The five workers were rushed to hospital. Apparently, they are all conscious, and their lives are not in danger.

According to police and other sources, the workers were checking on air leaks from a vinyl chloride pipe in a tunnel.
