The Tokyo District Public Prosecutors Office indicted a 44-year-old All Nippon Airways captain in March last year, on charges of indecent acts without consent against a fellow flight attendant, without taking the captain into custody, it has been learned.
The trial is ongoing at the Tokyo District Court.
According to the indictment, the captain groped the flight attendant’s buttocks through clothing multiple times while walking to a hotel on a street in Takamatsu, Kagawa Prefecture, in the early hours of Oct. 10, 2023.
The flight attendant is said to have felt unable to refuse due to concerns of suffering professional consequences as a result of the captain’s influence.
According to ANA, the captain admitted to the indecent acts during an internal investigation and promised not to engage in harassment again.
“We have imposed strict disciplinary measures, and therefore the individual currently continues to serve as captain. We will thoroughly implement measures to prevent a recurrence,” an ANA’s spokesperson said.
