Man in 20s Killed in Tohoku Expressway Crash in Osaki, Miyagi Pref.

OSAKI, Miyagi — A man in his 20s was killed early Sunday morning after a car crashed into a median strip on the Tohoku Expressway in Osaki, Miyagi Prefecture.

According to police, the accident occurred around 5 a.m. on the southbound lanes. The victim was traveling in the front passenger seat. The driver, also a man in his 20s, was taken to a hospital and remains in critical condition.

The accident took place on a straight, two-lane section of the road with good visibility. Police believe the driver lost control of the vehicle while attempting to overtake another car.

The crash caused a temporary closure of both the northbound and southbound lanes of the expressway between the Furukawa and Ohira interchanges.
