6 Killed in Collision in Expressway Tunnel in Mie Pref.; Truck Driver Arrested (Update 2)

Six people were killed in a four-car collision in an expressway tunnel in Mie Prefecture early on Friday, police said.

According to the Mie prefectural police, a person involved in the accident made an emergency call at around 2:20 a.m. and reported that cars were on fire inside the tunnel, which is on the Shin-Meishin Expressway in Kameyama, Mie Prefecture.

The police said that the fire has been extinguished and that a 54-year-old female driver of a large cargo truck was arrested at the scene.
