The number of contracts for heatstroke insurance has jumped amid the unusual heatwave that began in late June, according to Sumitomo Life Insurance Co.
The company launched the insurance product this spring. Until late June, it had sold up to 400 policies a day, but that surged to about 6,900 on June 29. The insurance covers costs of intravenous treatment at a hospital and hospitalization for two or more nights.
