NAGOYA — The Aichi prefectural police on Sunday arrested a 20-year-old woman on suspicion of abandoning the body of an infant inside a private room of an internet cafe.

The suspect, who claims she is a shop employee, is from Kani, Gifu Prefecture. She has admitted to the allegations, the police said.

According to the police, the woman is suspected of abandoning the infant’s body late this month by wrapping the body in a towel and hiding the body inside a room at an internet cafe in Nagoya.

The incident came to light after a staff member at the establishment called the police shortly after 7 a.m. Sunday, reporting a “foul odor coming from a private room.” Police officers rushed to the scene and discovered the body.

The police are working to identify the infant and determine the cause of death.
