The Finance Ministry will issue two types of ¥1,000 silver coin to commemorate the Asian Games and the Asian Para Games scheduled to be held in Aichi Prefecture and other locations from September to October.
Each coin will be sold for ¥34,800, including tax, setting the highest price for a ¥1,000 commemorative silver coin due to soaring silver prices.
The coins measure 40 millimeters in diameter and weigh 31.1 grams. The obverse for one type features track and field and sepaktakraw for the Asian Games, and the other type boccia and goalball for the Asian Para Games. The reverse displays the mascot character for the respective games.
A total of 25,000 coins of each type will be issued. Preorders will be accepted for about three weeks from June 3 via the Japan Mint’s website and other channels. A lottery will be held if demand exceeds the supply. Delivery will begin in mid-September.
