TAIPEI — A delegation from the Liberal Democratic Party and Taiwan President Tsai Ing-wen were in accord on opposing unilateral changes to the status quo in the Indo-Pacific region by force, with China in mind.

Delegates from the LDP’s Youth Division visited Taipei and met with Tsai on Thursday. They also agreed that peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait are important to both Japan and Taiwan.

Tsai expressed gratitude that the Japanese government attaches great importance to the Taiwan Strait, adding that the relationship between Taiwan and Japan is close and important.

Taiwan will contribute to the prosperity of the Indo-Pacific region together with Japan, she told them.

“Any attempt to change the status quo by force is unacceptable,” said LDP lawmaker Norikazu Suzuki, acting director of the Youth Division. “Stability in the Taiwan Strait means stability for Japan as well.”
