Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy arrived in Japan on Saturday to attend a Group of Seven summit session on the Ukraine situation.
The president arrived at Hiroshima Airport in his first trip to Asia since Russian launched an invasion against his country in February last year.
It was initially announced that Zelenskyy would attend the G7 summit online. However, the president “expressed his strong desire” to attend the summit in person, according to an official announcement that the Japanese government made earlier on Saturday to confirm his visit to Hiroshima.
In the session scheduled for Sunday, Zelenskyy is expected to urge G7 leaders to strengthen sanctions against Russia and provide additional military assistance.
