WASHINGTON (Jiji Press) — The U.S. government on Tuesday said that it has approved the sale of Rolling Airframe Missiles Block 2B ship-to-air missiles to Japan for an estimated cost of $74.6 million.
Japan has requested to buy up to 63 such missiles, according to a press release from the U.S. Defense Security Cooperation Agency. RAMs are designed to protect ships from missiles.
The sale “will support the foreign policy goals and national security objectives of the United States by improving the security of a major ally that is a force for political stability and economic progress in the Indo-Pacific region,” the agency said.
