Japan Sept. core machinery orders almost flat

TOKYO (Jiji Press) — Japan’s seasonally adjusted core machinery orders in September were almost flat from the previous month, the Cabinet Office said Wednesday.

Private-sector orders excluding those for ships and power equipment, closely watched as a leading indicator of corporate capital spending, came to ¥838.9 billion.

The September result, which followed a 2.4% decrease in August, compared with the median estimate of a 1.8% rise by 18 economic research institutes surveyed by Jiji Press.
