FUTTSU, Chiba — An improved variety of fuchsia petunias are in full bloom, carpeting a hillside at Mother Farm in Futtsu, Chiba Prefecture, on Tuesday. The variety, called Momoiro toiki (pink breath), was jointly developed by horticulturist Akemi Sugii, a native of Minami-Boso in the prefecture, and Chiba University. About 20,000 of the petunia variety grow in a roughly 5,000 square meters field at the dairy and flower farm. According to the farm, the flowers will remain at their peak through late September.
