Honda to End South Korea Car Sales as Demand Slumps

Honda Motor Co. will end automobile sales in South Korea by the end of this year, the firm announced Thursday.

The company will continue its motorcycle business in the country, as well as after-sales services such as supplying parts and warranty support. The decision reflects sluggish automobile sales in the country, with Honda seeking to concentrate management resources on its stronger motorcycle business.

Honda has sold vehicles including the Accord sedan and the CR-V sport utility vehicle in South Korea. Its automobile sales in the country totaled 1,951 units in 2025, down more than 80% from their peak in 2008. Honda has no factory in South Korea and has been exporting vehicles from the United States to sell in the country.

Following a strategic shift that included halting the development of some electric vehicles, Honda expected to post a net loss of up to ¥690 billion in consolidated earnings for the fiscal year ending March 2026, the firm said last month.
