Nurseries gear up for peak princettia season
November 16, 2021
Staff check potted princettias at a nursery in Kokubunji, Tokyo, on Tuesday as the industry gears up for the peak season for the Christmas plants. The princettia is a variety of the poinsettia, and the plant is a symbol of compassion. From mid-November to early December, the Matsumoto Engei nursery ships about 13,000 pots of princettias and poinsettias, mainly in the Tokyo metropolitan area. The flowers are also popular gifts for “happy married couples day” on Nov. 22. “I hope people will celebrate their anniversary by decorating [their home] with these colorful plants,” said Yoshitaka Matsumoto of the nursery.
