Yuzuru Hanyu, the two-time Olympic champion in men’s figure skating, will give a press conference in Tokyo on Tuesday evening to talk about his future plans, his management agency said Monday.
During the Beijing Olympics in February, Hanyu finished in fourth place, failing in his bid for a third consecutive gold medal. The Japanese star even attempted to land an unprecedented quad axel in his free skate. The International Skating Union recognized him as the first skater to attempt the jump in an ISU-sanctioned competition.
Soon after his medal-less performance at the Beijing Olympics, Hanyu stopped short of clarifying his future during a press conference, only saying, “I hope I can continue to cherish and master figure skating, which I care about so much.”
